Board
Gordon Brooks — President and CEO
Gordon has more than 27 years of outsourcing and product development experience with companies like CSC, ADP and Oracle and has operated global development centers in 16 countries. In 1991 Gordon helped found Cambridge Technology Partners (CTP), where he ran operations throughout the Americas and had global responsibility for sales as Chief Sales Officer. He was instrumental in growing the company to more than $600 million in revenues over his seven year tenure, including a successful IPO in 1994. After CTP, Gordon founded and became the President, CEO and Chairman of outsourcing firm Breakaway Solutions. Under Gordon's leadership, Breakaway grew to serve more than 200 customers worldwide, achieved revenues over $100 million in its first full year of operations and had a successful IPO with a market capitalization of $4.7 billion. After founding and heading up China outsourcing firm E5 Systems, he made the move to executive leadership of Symphony Services in 2004. Gordon holds a Bachelor's Degree from the University of New Hampshire.
Dr. Ajay Kela — Chief Operating Officer & Managing Director
Ajay is responsible for global operations, worldwide sales and continuing relationships with clients. With more than 25 years of experience bringing high revenue-generating software products and services to market for both ISVs and service companies in the United States and India, Ajay has the optimal mix of experience and cultural know-how for his global role. In his previous leadership role with Symphony, Ajay led the substantial business expansion in India growing the team from 500 employees to more than 3000.
Prior to joining Symphony, Ajay was Entrepreneur in Residence with NEA, a Silicon Valley VC, making investments in software and services as well as playing an operating role in the funded companies. Previously, Ajay served as General Manager of Autodesk’s AutoCAD Division, where he grew revenue from just over $400 million to more than $850 million. He also worked as a research scientist at GE Corporate Research and Development and received his Ph.D. in engineering and computer science from the University of Rochester, New York. He received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
C Mahalingam — Executive Vice President & Chief People Officer
C Mahalingam (Mali) has more than 23 years of experience in the field of Human Resources and has held senior executive positions with leading organizations. Prior to joining Symphony Services, Mali led HR for the India operations of IBM and Hewlett-Packard as well as Philips Software Center. At these companies Mali helped drive Total Employee Delight to attain a position among the best employers. Mali is currently the President of the IT Industry HR Association, Bangalore, and is on the National HR Committee of the Confederation of Indian Industry, New Delhi. He is a recipient of the prestigious Golden Jubilee Gold Medal for the Masters in Personnel Management & Industrial Relations, Loyola College, Chennai. Mali holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Sacred Heart College, Chennai.
Amitava Roy — President, India
Amitava is President of Symphony Services India and has more than 24 years of leadership experience in the information technology industry. Amitava brings to Symphony Services proven abilities in strategic planning and in the building and management of businesses in a global environment.
Before joining Symphony, Amitava was a Senior Corporate Vice President at HCL Technologies, one of India’s top IT and technology firms, where he had oversight of more than 7,000 people, establishing and managing R&D centers for clients. His achievements at HCL include revitalizing hardware R&D services to become a leading embedded and wireless services business, taking on leadership for Netcentric Technologies division growing it from the smallest to the largest delivery division, and the launch of the enterprise consulting business, which became the fastest growing business in the company. He was also responsible for HCL’s sales and marketing operations for Japan and today HCL Japan is among the fastest growing geographies for HCL worldwide. Amitava was also responsible for the creation of new service offerings, business segments, critical partnerships and joint ventures around the world.
Prior to HCL, Amitava was a founding member of Hughes Software Systems (currently known as Aricent). As a pioneer in what is today India’s thriving product development and R&D sector, he played critical roles in the creation of award-winning enterprise networking products for the parent company and in strategic planning for growth and diversification of the company's business. He also has more than a decade of experience with Tata Consultancy Services, where he last held the position of group manager for its Data Communication and Networking business. Amitava received a Master of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering as well as a Bachelor of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata.
Dr. Jerry Smith — Chief Technology Officer
Jerry draws from more than 25 years of experience as a technology innovator and IT strategist to help Symphony Services and its clients derive business benefit from the successful adoption and use of critical technologies. Jerry joins Symphony from his role as CTO, Vice President of engineering and acting Chief Information Officer (CIO) for IPR International, a technology services company specializing in the protection and preservation of electronic information. Under his guidance, the company won the Ben Franklin Technology Partners Best Management Team 2004 peer award and the Gartner Midsize Enterprise Innovation Award, recognizing the success of the technology.
Prior to IPR, Jerry was the Senior Vice President and CTO at Systems and Computers Technology (SCT) and the CTO of professional services firm Semaphore. He also worked in management roles at Xerox, Sales Technologies and KPMG and was the principal investigator/owner of Market Place Technologies.
Jerry has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering from California State Polytechnic University, Masters and Post-Doctoral degrees in Computer Science from NOVA Southeastern University and a Naval Nuclear Power degree from the United States Navy, in which he served as a pilot, nuclear engineer and project engineer. He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Drexel University and an Adjunct Professor at NOVA Southeastern University.
Michael Thomas — Executive Vice President, Sales & Marketing
Michael brings more than 20 years of deep experience in the information technology, product engineering and outsourcing markets to his role at Symphony Services, where he is responsible for overseeing worldwide sales operations and leading the sales force.
Prior to joining Symphony, Michael was VP of Sales and GM of BPO services for Capgemini North America. While there, he had direct responsibility for sales, client management and platform incubation and development, generating billions in contract value from some of the largest and most complex BPO transactions in the market. He was also instrumental in the creation of new service platforms, such as outsourcing capabilities for a component of Product Lifecycle Management dealing with engineering content management, as well as the development of ISV products within the food industry. His teams established market share for several new offerings and helped clients drive over $3 billion in increased shareholder value.
Before Capgemini Group, he held several leadership positions at EDS, including President of Global Sales for EDS e-Solutions, where he ran sales, business development, alliances and product incubation for a $1 billion business unit and was responsible for applications development and consulting. Michael previously spent 16 years with EDS Financial Services, providing technology, business process outsourcing and professional services to the banking industry.
Michael received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration/Accounting from Texas A&M University, has completed courses in banking and systems engineering development and is a graduate of the Thunderbird Executive Development Program.
S L Narayanan — Chief Financial Officer
SL Narayanan brings a wealth of experience, with a career spanning more than two decades of ‘hands on’ work in all aspects of financial management. In his position as CFO, he oversees all financial operations at Symphony, focusing on capital structure, budgeting, financial reporting and managing communication with the investor community.
Prior to joining Symphony, SL was Corporate Director (Finance) at Bharti Enterprises Ltd., where he oversaw strategic financial matters concerning the company’s investments, including the management of investor relations, long-term financial planning initiatives and treasury operations. Before Bharti, SL was the Corporate Vice President (Finance) at HCL Technologies, where he successfully led the company’s financial reorganization following several global mergers/acquisitions and the resulting integrations. SL has also held executive financial positions at BPL Cellular Holdings Ltd. and ITC Ltd.
David Carpini — Vice President & Managing Director, Europe and Asia Pacific
David is responsible for business development and client relationships in Europe and Asia Pacific and has oversight for Symphony’s UK based operations. He brings more than 25 years of experience in the technology industry, with specific expertise helping companies leverage global delivery models and offshore best practices. With his extensive international business experience, he brings a deep understanding of the business drivers impacting European software and technology companies.
Previously, David was Vice President, Commercial Software Solutions at Symphony Services with responsibility for sales and relationships with clients primarily in the U.S. Prior to joining Symphony he was Vice President of Sales for Covansys, a global consulting and technology services company. He joined Covansys from ITWorx, Egypt’s largest software development company. He has also held sales, marketing and engineering roles at Scient and French Fragrances International. David spent much of his career with IBM working with software development teams in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He held multiple sales and marketing roles, including managing worldwide teams servicing one of IBM’s largest global accounts working out of offices in London. David holds a B.S. degree in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science from Fairfield University.
Robert Corace — Vice President, Strategic Consulting
Robert is responsible for leading the company’s strategic consulting services, which includes client assessment and planning, business process re-engineering and management consulting services aimed at global transformation. He closely examines clients’ operational situations and business objectives in order to determine the most effective way to successfully achieve these objectives through the execution of globalization initiatives.
Prior to Symphony, Robert was the founder and CEO of VMOplus, a consulting company that focused on helping organizations develop and optimize their global and distributed programs. The company worked with clients in the commercial software, technology, manufacturing, research, financial services and pharmaceutical markets, providing the strategy, counsel, support and guidance needed to transform their businesses into global organizations.
In addition, Robert served as a technical practice leader and senior principal at PriceWaterhouse, where he developed and managed global technology and business support centers for his clients. Earlier in his career, he was a senior strategist with IBM, helping to deploy new business partnerships through the selection of key technology products and strong branding efforts. He was also involved with the launch of Office Depot, setting up and managing all technology, supply chain and telephony systems for the company. Robert holds an electrical engineering degree from DeVry University, where he majored in electronics and telecommunications engineering with a minor in robotics. He also attended MIT for global telecommunications management.
Alan Harlan — President, Product Line Management
Alan brings more than 20 years of experience with software and outsourcing companies and has served in executive technology, sales, and accounting roles. As the leader of the Product Line Management group, Alan and his team assume full responsibility for entire product lines or business units—globalizing product engineering and taking on all market facing operations—to help clients optimize profitability and sustainability.
He has a track record of running high performing sales and delivery operations and turning around under-performing business units. Under his leadership the Product Line Management group transformed Spend Management Solutions, a telecommunications expense management software provider, into a profitable and sustainable software-as-a-service (SaaS) organization by globalizing the full product engineering lifecycle and reforming onshore sales and service resources to efficiently serve North American and European customers. Alan also serves as President of Symphony Spend Management Solutions which is a unit within the Product Line Management group.
Prior to joining Symphony Services, Alan was EVP for Sierra Design Group, Inc., a gaming software development and services firm, VP of Sales for Sourcecorp, Inc., a data services company with significant global outsourcing relationships, and EVP of Affiliated Computer Services, Inc., a global technology and business process firm.
Alan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in Accounting from Louisiana State University.
Mohan hebbar — Vice President, Embedded Systems & Software Business Unit, India
Mohan is responsible for service delivery for embedded clients with telecom, system management and media applications. He brings more than 18 years of rich systems experience in telecom switching, transmission and applications and product engineering expertise applying emerging technologies in the telecom convergence domain.
Before joining Symphony, Mohan was Managing Director of Cradle Technologies in India, a U.S. start-up developing multi-core DSP chipsets with parallel programming as a development paradigm. Prior to Cradle Technologies, Mohan headed engineering operations for OpenClovis in India, with a focus on carrier-grade middleware for telecommunication infrastructure equipment. While at OpenClovis, Mohan built and led a highly specialized engineering team that created products from conception to release. He also held positions with Texas Instruments (TI) managing the DSL modem development group and overseeing multimedia codecs delivery for TI business units worldwide. Earlier, Mohan had a long stint at Hughes Software Systems (currently, Aricent Communications) where he was responsible for the DSP group with a focus on satellite communication, wireless communication and VOIP. Mohan began his career in the hardware industry building medium-sized digital switches and winning approval from the Department of Telecommunication in India.
Mohan holds a Master’s degree in Communication Systems from IIT- Roorkee, UP, India.
Indranil Mukherjee — Associate Vice President, Software Enabled Business Unit, India
Indranil is responsible for service delivery for clients in the Internet Services, eLearning, Media and Publishing verticals with commercial-grade applications that are vital for driving revenue. Indranil brings more than 13 years of experience in India and the U.S. building and running engineering operations and applying software engineering processes and methodologies.
In his first leadership role at Symphony, Indranil built and operated a Global Operating Center for one of the largest ERP product companies in the world. He later took responsibility for a number of strategic clients and established relationships with Symphony’s first Japanese clients.
Prior to joining Symphony, Indranil was with E5 Systems where he was Vice President responsible for delivery operations for key North American clients, working out of Massachusetts and serving prominent ISVs and software-enabled businesses. While at E5 he also ran India operations in E5’s Bangalore center. Indranil also held positions with Cadence Design Systems, a leader in Electronic Design Automation, at their Noida, India facilities.
Indranil is a graduate of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata.
Madhusudhan Reddy N — Senior Vice President, Enterprise Application, Software Enabled Business Units and Bangalore Location Head, India
Madhu brings more that 20 years of experience in technology services and is responsible for growth of the Enterprise Application and Software enabled business units for Symphony Services. He is also responsible for managing delivery operations at the Bangalore center.
In his earlier roles, Madhu has managed technology services as well as product teams and has extensive experience in setup, establishment and growth of new operations.
Prior to Symphony, Madhu was Managing Director of Evolving Systems Inc. and led the establishment of their India Operations. Earlier in his career, as Assistant Vice President and General Manager, Hughes Software Systems, he established Hughes Bangalore operations and built it to more than 300 strong organization. Madhu has also spent significant years in leading product teams at Tata Consultancy Services, GE Capital and PSI Data Systems.
Madhu holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics & Communications from Bangalore University.
Daniel Sierra, Senior Vice President, Embedded Systems & Software Business Unit, North America
Daniel brings more than 24 years of engineering services expertise to his leadership role at Symphony Services where he is responsible for building close working relationships with clients and guiding delivery teams.
Daniel has a strong track record of rapidly growing technology services businesses. Prior to joining Symphony, he founded Optimal Engineering Partners Inc., a full-lifecycle global engineering services firm specializing in embedded and real-time, systems and applications development. As President and CEO, he led the company to 100 percent annual compound growth over the first four years of operation. Previously, Daniel launched Viridien Technologies, a services company focused on embedded systems and Internet/Web domains, which was recognized by Computerworld magazine as one of the fastest growing organizations in New England. He also co-founded Kenda Systems, Inc., a $50 million global services and solutions consulting firm that became one of Inc. 500’s fastest growth companies.
Daniel earned a B.S. degree in Marketing Management from Bentley College.
Alok Sinha — Senior Vice President, Professional Services & Support Business Unit, India
Alok is responsible for service delivery in Symphony’s professional services and technical support business. He brings more than 20 years experience to his leadership role.
Prior to Symphony, Alok was with Scandent Solutions, an IT services company based in Bangalore, where he served as Senior Vice President, Enterprise Solutions and Executive Vice President, India and Middle East operations. Alok had P&L responsibility for Scandent’s global enterprise solutions business which he grew as a result of establishing a professional services and support organization and refreshing their go-to-market strategy.
Previously, Alok was Vice President, Integrated Business Solutions, at Reliance Infocom, where he was responsible for integrating the enterprise with backend business systems. He also worked for the Tata Group in a variety of roles including Strategic Information Officer and Executive Officer to the Executive Director of Tata Motors.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Punjab Engineering College in Chandigarh and an MBA from XLRI in Jamshedpur, India.
Kishor Wikhe — Senior Vice President, Enterprise Technology Business Unit & Pune Location Head, India
Kishor brings more than 16 years of experience in business strategy, product development, delivery, and operations in the technology services industry to Symphony Services. Building upon his strong track record of scaling delivery operations and managing large-scale engagements for both global and domestic clients, Kishor is responsible for managing delivery operations at our Pune technology centre. Kishor will also be responsible for the growth of our Enterprise Technology business unit.
Prior to joining Symphony, Kishor was Executive Vice President in Capgemini India Pvt Ltd (formerly Kanbay). Kishor managed development and implementation of VisionPlus, the leading global credit card processing software product and the creation of its toolkit. He also established Kanbay’s regional portfolio for India/Middle East/South Africa. Before Kanbay, Kishor led P&L responsibility and managed growth for one of TCS’s best-performing US territories.
Kishor has a Master in Engineering degree in Electronics and Control Systems from BITS - Pilani, India, where he finished top of his class.

Robert M. Howe
Bob’s experience spans more than 30 years in information technology, consulting and services. Bob founded the IBM Consulting practice. Starting the group in 1991, Bob created the strategy and built a worldwide network of consulting practices, which supported all industries. When he left in 1994, the consulting group had grown to $250 million in revenues and today is one of the largest consulting organizations worldwide. At IBM, Bob also served as the General Manager of IBM's global banking, financial and securities business, a $14 billion division of IBM, where he was responsible for sales, strategy, and solutions. Following IBM, Bob was the chairman of Scient Incorporated, where he helped start the company as its CEO and built it to over 2000 professionals in less than 3 years.
Bob also had a distinguished career with Booz, Allen & Hamilton starting in 1976, where he consulted extensively in information technology. He was elected Senior Vice President in 1986, and served as a member of the Board of Directors and a member of the firm's executive committee. In addition, he serves on the Boards of JohnsonDiversey and NorthStar. He also started Montgomery Goodwin Investments, LLC. Bob holds a BBA from Southern Methodist University and an MBA from Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.
Herb Hunt
Herb is Executive Vice President, Operations at Symphony Technology Group. Prior to Symphony, Herb worked at Siebel Systems and IBM. Joining Siebel Systems in September 2001, he held many positions, including Vice President and Chief Technical Officer, Quality Engineering & Offshore Operations, Senior Vice President, Global Services and Senior Vice President, Strategy. Herb's last assignment at IBM was Vice President, Worldwide Reengineering, Sales, Service and Marketing where he was responsible for all aspects of IBM's Global Transformation. Prior to this assignment, Herb held many senior-level positions with IBM around the world such as Vice President, Operations - IBM Europe, Middle East and Africa and Vice President, Operations - IBM Asia-Pacific. In these roles, Herb oversaw the implementation of IBM's go-to-market model and the operation of the Sales organizations that support IBM's large global customers. Herb held various executive positions in the Asia-Pacific region for 20 years, including Sales, Service, Marketing and Software Development assignments. Herb joined IBM in the Vancouver, Canada Branch office in 1969.
Ramanan Raghavendran
Ramanan is the Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Kubera Partners, a private equity firm that invests in crossborder businesses. Prior to founding Kubera, Ramanan led the successful cross-border investing efforts at TH Lee Putnam Ventures as a senior partner (and he continues to oversee the THLPV portfolio). He was formerly a Senior Partner at Insight Venture Partners, where he invested in business process outsourcing and enterprise software companies, including crossborder investing via ConnectCapital, an Insight affiliate. Previously, Ramanan was a senior member of the investment team at General Atlantic, where he initiated the Internet-related investment effort and also led sector efforts in technology services and enterprise software. Ramanan began his professional career at McKinsey & Company in New York and London.
He is the chairman of the advisory board of Magic Bus (www.magicbusindia.org), a Mumbai-based charitable organization that uses innovative techniques to assist some of the most “at-risk” children in Mumbai. He is a member of the advisory board of the Center for the Advanced Study of India at the University of Pennsylvania, the only research institution in the United States dedicated to the study of contemporary India. Ramanan also co-founded Impact Partners, the first venture philanthropy entity in India.
He holds a B.S. in Finance from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School and a B.S.E. in Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania's Moore School of Engineering.
Romesh Wadhwani
Romesh is the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Symphony Technology Group. Romesh was the Founder and former Chairman and CEO of Aspect Development, Inc., until 1999 when the company was purchased by i2 Technologies and Romesh became the Vice Chairman of i2 Technologies and a member of the i2 Board of Directors. Over the past nine years, Romesh has spearheaded the emergence of Aspect as a leader in the fast-growing B2B e-commerce arena. This dominance led to Aspect's merger with i2-the largest merger in software history.
Romesh was previously Chairman and CEO of Cimflex Teknowledge Corporation, a company specializing in products and systems for computer-integrated manufacturing. Prior to that, he was Chairman and CEO of a company specializing in information systems for energy management. In addition, he has been a director on the boards of several companies and organizations. Romesh received his Bachelor of Science degree from IIT Bombay and his MS and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University.
Barbara A. Yastine
With more than 20 years of experience as an executive with global financial firms such as Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) and Citigroup, Barbara is well-suited for her roles as Independent Board Member and Chair of Symphony Services' audit committee, where she is responsible for leading the Board in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities related to the integrity of Symphony's financial statements and internal controls, the engagement of its external auditors, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Barbara was most recently the CFO of CSFB, the global investment bank of Zurich-based Credit Suisse Group (CSG). While there, she oversaw all financial reporting and tax activities, served on CSFB's operating committee and on the executive boards of both CSG and CSFB. Before joining CSFB, Barbara was with Citigroup and its predecessor companies for 15 years, serving in a number of executive and financial roles at both the corporate and operating levels. These included CFO of Citigroup's Global Corporate and Investment Bank, Chief Auditor, Chief Administrative Officer of its Global Consumer Group, Executive Vice President of Finance and Insurance of its consumer lending business and Vice President of Corporate Investor Relations and Financial Planning & Analysis.
In addition to her professional duties, Barbara also chairs the Finance and Audit Committee of the Board of Directors of Phoenix House, the nation's leading provider of drug and alcohol abuse treatment and prevention services, operating more than one hundred programs in nine states. She holds a B.A. in journalism from New York University and an MBA in Finance from the New York University School of Business.
